This course is suitable
for students wishing to extend their skills at expressing an idea
through the medium of a sketchbook. Students will be guided through
a range of design methods including a variety of techniques and
media for mark making, colouring pages, pattern making, and ways
of creating texture. These ideas will be extended to include ways
of adapting a sketchbook to make an individual statement. Students
will create a portfolio of samples and will complete two sketchbook
projects to explore a given theme in each. Simple book making methods
will be covered and ways of creating free standing display books
will be explored.
Assessment is verbal throughout the year
with feedback on the individual’s progress. There is no formal
examination. Students will be awarded a City and Guilds Certificate
at level 2. At the end of the year students will have gained confidence
in design skills and have discovered techniques to explore a given
theme expressively. The completed projects will be displayed at
the annual College Exhibition.
